The rule states that, 80% of your social media posts should inform, educate, and entertain your audience, while only 20% should directly promote your business.

According to "This rule grew out of a concept called “permission marketing,” outlined by Seth Godin almost 10 years ago.

According to Godin, “Permission marketing is the privilege (not the right) of delivering anticipated, personal and relevant messages to people who actually want to get them. It recognizes the new power of the best consumers to ignore marketing.”
